Common Questions

and, hopefully, helpful answers

Does therapy work?

Yes, therapy has been shown to be

effective.
Academic studies have found that

people are better off following

therapy (https://www.apa.org/about

/policy/resolution-psychotherapy).
A Consumer Reports Survey from

1995 showed that roughly 90% of

respondents found therapy to be

helpful (https://pubmed.ncbi.

nlm.nih.gov/8561380/).

Research also indicates that for

many issues and problems,

therapy is just as, if not more,

effective than medications (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/

pmc/articles/PMC8475909/).

In addition, a study by Ken Howard et al. determined that 75% of individuals receiving therapy showed improvement after 26 sessions and 85% showed improvement after 52 sessions (https://i-cbt.org.ua/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Howard-dose_effect-psychotherapy-1986.pdf).

How often will I see you?

I work with you either once a week or every other week for a 60-minute session.

Therapy works best when regular appointments are maintained.

Once you have achieved your desired goals then less frequent "booster" sessions can be arranged for.

Some individuals participate in therapy for a few weeks, others for a few months and some for a few years. It all depends on who you are and what growth you want to achieve.

Do you do in person or tele-health sessions?

Both.... I absolutely love doing in-person therapy and also find that video or phone sessions are impactful and effective.

I encourage my clients to start with a handful of in-person sessions and then, if desired, we can discuss and shift over to video or phone sessions.

Once your therapy is up and running, you are more than welcome to move back and forth between in-person and tele-heath sessions based upon your needs and/or the demands of that particular day.

What are your fees?

My fee range is between $90 and $120 a session with my clients determining the fee, within that range, that works for their lifestyle, budget, etc....

I look forward to us discussing your therapy fee, so don't let fears about the cost of therapy stop you.

Therapy is an investment that, over time, pays for itself.

I do not accept credit cards and payment is due at the time of service.

What is your availability?

I strive to maintain a flexible schedule in order to accommodate the needs of my clients.

I have morning, day and early evening hours however, I do not have any sessions in the late evenings, on Fridays or weekends. I am in the office Monday - Thursday.

From time to time my schedule becomes full and during these times, I do not have the ability to take on new clients.

Are you available after hours?

I am not available outside of my business hours, which are Monday - Thursday 10 am - 6pm.

I expect my clients to contact 9-1-1, go to the nearest emergency room or call the San Diego Access and Crisis Line at 1-800-479-3339 if a life threatening crisis occurs.

With this said, extra support and assistance will always be offered and provided during difficult times.

What is your office like?

I am on the second floor in an office building, which is located on a quiet street in downtown Escondido with easy freeway access.

Unfortunately the building is not wheelchair accessible and does require you to climb a flight of stairs. I apologize for the lack of wheelchair accessibility.

I do not have a waiting room, so if you arrive early please feel free to wait in the hallway, or if you desire wander on Grand Avenue, where there are coffee shops, fun stores and other curiosities.

My suite is calm, comfortable and uncluttered. Natural light is used as much as possible and there is minimal extraneous noise. White noise plays in the background.

Who is the dog in these pictures?

This is Frankie, who is learning how to become a calming and soothing presence in the office.

Frankie is only out and about if you desire this. If you prefer, then he is content to be in his crate, where he will be snuggled up and snoozing away.

While Frankie is many things, above all he is a joyful, happy creature who loves people, animals and simply hanging out,
